ALL ABOARD!

ALL ABOARD!

Marci and I have officially begun our service on the Global Mercy. We arrived (in Cadiz, Spain) on Monday. The ship is in her first “dry dock” (required every five years). This is when the ship is taken out of water for maintenance and inspection. We have a very small crew onboard during annual maintenance (because so much of the ship is shut down for inspection and repair). Most of the crew will arrive next week and we will sail to Sierra Leone soon after that.

My duties have begun and I am already attending meetings with the current Managing Director. We will spend the next few weeks doing a “hand over” as I assume the duties and responsibilities.

Marci will not begin her job for a week or so (though she is helping where needed). Children are not allowed on the ship during dry dock, so they will all arrive next week. The school (called the Academy) had to make some adjustments due to staffing changes, so Marci was asked to teach third grade instead of kindergarten. Things are moving!
